Since May 2, Özgür Gelecek newspaper reporter Sevda Erkılınç, who has been under arrest since May 2, spoke to bianet about the conditions in prison and the rights violations she has experienced. “Women’s solidarity keeps women alive and resistance grows,” Erkılınç said, adding that she survived her imprisonment with the support of women in particular.
Erkılınç, who has celiac disease, said that her right to gluten-free nutrition was not met in prison and that she was not referred to a hospital. “Every petition is a resistance,” the journalist said, adding that he was nicknamed “Petitioner” in prison.
Drawing attention to the physical and psychological difficulties of living in a ward for 20 people, Erkılınç emphasized that freedom of the press is under threat: “The free press cannot be silenced, journalism is not a crime. The voice of truth is never silent.”
