Reacting to the detention of journalist Timur Soykan, press professional organizations gathered in front of Çağlayan Courthouse on July 6, 2025 to demand his release. In statements made by RSF Turkey Representative Erol Önderoğlu, İzel Sezer from DISK Basın-İş and TGS Istanbul Branch Chair Özgür Denizkaya, it was emphasized that Soykan exercised his right to criticize and was practicing journalism.
Soykan had been detained on charges of “disseminating information likely to disrupt public peace” due to his posts criticizing the operations against CHP municipalities. Journalists say he should be released to resume journalism
