On July 6, 2025, Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Association (MKG) announced the report on rights violations against women journalists for the month of June. According to the report, 7 women journalists were detained in June, 2 of them were arrested. 3 journalists’ houses were raided, 2 journalists were subjected to ill-treatment, 3 journalists were threatened, 2 journalists were prevented from following the news, 2 journalists were investigated, 1 journalist was sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison, 10 lawsuits are pending against 11 journalists, 7 journalists are still in prison and 1 journalist was dismissed.

MKG emphasized that journalistic activities are criminalized and freedom of the press is violated, especially the threat against Mezopotamya Agency reporter Zeynep Durgut. The dismissal of journalists working for VOA Kurdish was also cited as an example of precariousness.

The statement reiterated the call for an end to impunity policies and decriminalization of journalistic activities.
