Ahmet Serdar Koyğun, a peddler whose stall was intervened by the police in İzmir Konak Güzelyalı Neighborhood, was beaten and pepper spray was sprayed in his face. A nearby citizen was also beaten during the intervention. The incident was caught on cell phone camera. Following the reactions, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality announced that the police officers involved in the incident were suspended and an administrative investigation was launched. In the statement of the municipality, it was emphasized that the images are incompatible with ethical rules.
