Police blocked a march by members of the Private Sector Teachers Union who had been on hunger strike for seven days in Ankara to demand a minimum wage increase and improved working conditions. Police used gas against teachers gathered in front of the union building and dragged some of them along the ground after assaulting them. Teachers who fell ill during the intervention were taken to hospital, and at least five people were detained. The teachers announced they would continue their struggle until their demands were met.
