Palestinian activist İsmail Çelik, who was arrested on charges of “insulting the President” while protesting the IDEF 2025 Defense Industry Fair, where companies that sell arms to Israel participate, has been in prison for two months. Çelik’s appeal against his arrest was rejected by the court; the first hearing will be held on October 1 at Bakırköy Courthouse. Before the hearing, activists gathered in front of the AK Party Istanbul Provincial Building in support of Çelik, but were prevented from approaching the building by the police and kept under a police blockade. During the protest, activists made statements criticizing Çelik’s arrest and the military/economic cooperation between Turkey and Israel; the protest continued with the slogans “Gaza resists, Ismail resists”.
