Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office ruled that there is no ground for prosecution against model-activist Melisa Aydınalp, against whom an investigation was launched on charges of “indecent act/exposure” (TCK 225) and “mediating the dissemination of obscene publications” due to her performative action and social media post on June 13 criticizing the government’s “normal birth” policies. The prosecutor’s office cited the jurisprudence of the 4th Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation and stated that there was no criminal element in the video footage of the protest. Aydınalp was detained in a house raid after the protest and was subjected to judicial control measures. Commenting on the verdict, Aydınalp said, “I will continue to fight for women’s rights despite the pressure.”
