A new investigation has been launched against BirGün editor Kayhan Ayhan. Ayhan was summoned for questioning for reporting on the arrest of Dokuz Eylül University students for graffiti calling for a boycott in Konak.
Ayhan, who gave a statement with his lawyer at the Istanbul Anadolu Courthouse, said, “I am a journalist; it is my duty to inform the public.” Investigations had previously been launched against Ayhan for his reporting on election irregularities, allegations of violence against villagers, and student protests. The journalist is also facing a lawsuit for damages over a story he wrote in the past.
