A new file was opened in the trial of journalist Rahime Karvar due to “illegal organization membership” through the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) investigation.
Karvar and her lawyers were present at the hearing held at Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court. The court announced that the HDK file opened on September 19 was merged with the current case.
In his defense, Karvar said, “HDK is a structure about the people’s right to organize, taking part in it is not a crime.” Karvar demanded the judicial controls such as signing a petition and ban on leaving the city to be lifted.
The prosecutor asked for Karvar to be sentenced based on the combined files, while the lawyers requested time for defense.
The court decided to continue judicial control measures and adjourned the trial to November 13.
