The fifth hearing of the lawsuit on the death of university student Kemal Kurkut due to the fire opened by police officer Yakup Ş. during the Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır in 2017 was held at Diyarbakır 7th Assize Court. The National Criminal Bureau report arriving at the court indicated that the defendant police officer “has directly targeted Kurkut while shooting” and that “the person who killed Kurkut is indeed defendant police officer Y.Ş.” However, the court denied the arrest claim against the defendant police officer. The next hearing was scheduled to May 30, 2019.
