The Küçükçekmece 5th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment prepared against social media personality Murat Övüç on February 16, 2026, and ruled that he should remain in custody. The Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prosecuted Övüç for “openly inciting the public to hatred and hostility” with a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for a video he shared wearing a headscarf. The court set the trial date for March 13, 2026, and rejected the request for release. Övüç was arrested on December 20, 2025, and sent to prison.
