In the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, the DEM Party’s motion to investigate the suspicious death of university student Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was found on the shore of Lake Van, was rejected with the votes of AKP and MHP MPs.
DEM Party MP Öznur Bartın criticized the contradictions found in the Forensic Medicine reports and the delay of the evidence and said, “Every suspicious death of a woman is an unsolved murder.”
Birol Aydın from the Yeni Yol Group emphasized the shortcomings in the investigation, saying, “At a time when so much technology has developed, we are still talking about negligence.”
IYI Party MP Mehmet Akalın drew attention to the systematic impunity in femicides, while CHP MP Ayça Taşkent said, “There is not only individual but also a chain of institutional responsibility in Rojin’s death.”
AKP MP Adem Yıldırım, on the other hand, drew reactions with his statement “Not every suspicious death of a woman is a murder, every suspicious death of a human being is a murder”.
