The request for the release of former Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, who was arrested after a trustee was appointed in his place, has been rejected once again.
The Edirne Type F Prison Administration and Observation Board rejected the application for supervised release/release on the grounds that “there was no statement that he had left the terrorist organization.” Similar grounds had been cited in previous rejection decisions.
The DEM Party described the decision as “unlawful,” “a continuation of political detention,” and “a step that sabotages the peace process.” Human rights defenders also emphasized that it is contrary to the law for prison boards to make decisions based on criteria such as a “declaration of separation.”
