The trial of journalist Rahime Karvar was held at the Istanbul 24th Heavy Penal Court. Karvar denied the charges, stating that all her activities were journalism.
The prosecution reiterated its previous request for imprisonment. Karvar’s lawyer stated that his client was a feminist journalist, that the program she moderated was part of her journalistic activities, and that the use of the term “Kurdistan” in the news reports could not be considered a crime.
The court sentenced Karvar to 2 years and 1 month in prison on charges of “aiding an organization.” While the electronic tag and signature requirement were lifted, the ban on leaving the country was upheld.
