On 26 November 2024, a lawsuit was filed against journalists Berfin Atlı, Gülcan Dereli, Kemal Taylan, Serap Güneş, Suzan Demir, Tuğçe Yılmaz and Erdoğan Alayumat for “aiding an armed terrorist organization” after they were detained in Eskişehir.
The investigation initiated by the Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was transferred to Istanbul and the indictment was sent to the Istanbul High Criminal Court.
Royalty payments to the journalists’ accounts and social media posts were described as aiding the organization in the indictment. While no trial date has been set yet, the indictment asks for up to 10 years in prison for the journalists.
In the indictment, writing in publications such as Yeni Özgür Politika and Politikart was considered as “making propaganda for the organization”. Prosecution cited MASAK reports and social media content as grounds.
