Journalist and writer Ahmet Nesin was sentenced to 1620 Turkish Liras of judicial fine due to a social media post, in which he criticised Patriotic Party leader Doğu Perinçek after he wanted the People’s Democratic Party to be shut down. Istanbul 23rd Criminal Court of First Instance deferred the announcement of the verdict, which was issued due to “insult.” Nesin announced the sentence against him with an article on artigercek.com and said, “I am neither informed of the lawsuit, nor have I testified… This is a case that reveals how the justice system works in Turkey.”
