Journalist Elif Akgül, who was imprisoned for 101 days as part of the operation against the HDK, appeared before the judge at Istanbul 25th Assize Court on charges of ‘membership in an illegal organization’. In her defense, she stated that she was not a member of any organization and that she was only active in legal organizations such as TGS, DİSK Basın-İş and MLSA. Akgül emphasized that the indictment was based on wiretaps from 13 years ago prepared by the Fethullahists and said “the only crime in the indictment is the crime committed by those who made the wiretaps, not me.” Akgül demanded the lifting of the ban on leaving the country and said, “I want my right to travel back, I demand my acquittal.” The court ruled for the continuation of judicial control. The next hearing will be held on December 4.
