The second hearing of the case against eight journalists following protests sparked by Ekrem İmamoğlu’s arrest was held at Istanbul’s 62nd Criminal Court of First Instance. Entry to the courthouse was restricted on the verbal instruction of Chief Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, and many citizens and journalists were not allowed inside. The prosecutor emphasized that the right to assembly and demonstration is a constitutional right and requested the acquittal of all defendants. The court agreed with the prosecutor’s opinion, and all eight journalists were acquitted on the grounds that “the alleged offense was not proven.” The journalists had been held in prison for two days in March.
