Journalist and painter Zehra Doğan was released from Tarsus Women’s Closed Prison after serving her sentence for more than two years due to “making terrorist organization propaganda.” Doğan has been arrested after being sentenced to 2 years, 9 months and 22 days of imprisonment in 2017 due to “making terrorist organization propaganda” through the news she reported during the curfews and security operations in Nusaybin, her social media posts and paintings. Doğan served approximately 4.5 months at Mardin Type-E Closed Prison in 2016 as well for her news on Nusaybin, social media posts and sketches.
