The detention period of Nedim Oruç, a reporter for Ajansa Welat who was beaten and detained while covering the news in Cizre district of Şırnak on January 14, was extended by one more day on January 16. A 24-hour restriction on access to lawyers had previously been imposed on Oruç’s case file. After the restriction period expired, Oruç was allowed to meet with his lawyers, and a new extension decision was issued on the case file, which is subject to a confidentiality order. It was reported that five people, including Oruç, would be questioned by the police the following day.
