Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against journalist Altan Sancar due to ‘inciting the public to hatred and hostility’ (TCK 216). Sancar was called to testify due to his post on the day Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained. Sancar stated in his statement that his posts were within the scope of journalistic activity and constitutional freedom of expression, that he did not target anyone and that he did not accept the accusations. Among the posts that were cited as grounds for the investigation, there are also content that includes rumors that İmamoğlu will be detained.
