The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) will impose a 10-day blackout on Sözcü TV starting June 1 for its coverage of the Ekrem İmamoğlu protests. If the court does not issue a stay of execution, only the text of the RTÜK decision will appear on the channel’s screen. RTÜK fined the broadcasts showing the protests on the grounds that they “incited hatred and hostility among the public”. This is the most severe sanction before the license revocation. If Sözcü TV is penalized again under the article for which it was fined, its license may be revoked.
