Journalist Furkan Karabay has been remanded in custody once again.
Karabay was detained on May 15 on the grounds of a video he posted on YouTube and social media posts, and was arrested the same day and sent to Silivri Marmara Prison. Today, at the detention review hearing held at the Istanbul 25th Heavy Penal Court, the journalist, who has been in prison for 181 days, had his request for release denied on the grounds that “the detention period is proportionate and judicial control would not be sufficient.”
While Karabay remains in detention, his fellow journalists and press organizations have reiterated their call for his release.
