The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has completed a 3,741-page indictment related to the investigation into a “criminal organization for profit” involving 402 people, including Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
Imamoğlu faces a prison sentence ranging from 828 to 2,352 years. Four journalists—Ruşen Çakır, Yavuz Oğhan, Şaban Sevinç, and Soner Yalçın—have been charged with “knowingly and willingly aiding the organization” and “publicly disseminating misleading information.”
The prosecution claimed that the journalists “contributed to the organization’s PR activities.” The journalists were detained last week and released without judicial control after giving their statements. The indictment was sent to the Istanbul 40th Heavy Penal Court.
