An investigation has been launched against Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Ufuk Sepetci on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and “insulting a public official in office” following a complaint by the Ministry of Family and Social Policies.
The investigation was launched over a story published on August 25, 2025, titled “Government austerity decrees remain on paper, Turkey overtakes Europe in official vehicles.”
Sepetci, who gave a statement at the Vatan Security Directorate, stated that all the data in the news article was taken from publicly available official sources, saying, “I was doing my job as a journalist, I did not insult any public officials.” Sepetci also stated that the file contained social media posts that did not belong to him.
