İsa Can Biler, who organized an armed attack on Evrensel’s Izmir office on August 13, was arrested on charges of “threatening with a weapon” and “possession of an unlicensed weapon”.
The prosecutor conducting the investigation had initially charged him with “damaging property”. However, the Criminal Judicature of Peace limited the grounds for arrest to threatening with a weapon and possession of an unlicensed weapon.
In his statement, Biler claimed that the attack happened by chance and was not politically motivated. However, Evrensel lawyers stated that the attack “cannot be explained by coincidence” and demanded that the investigation be expanded.
The lawyers demanded the seizure of the suspects’ digital materials, phone and computer examinations, house searches and the discovery of the instigators of the attack.
