During the Gaza Tribunal event held at Istanbul University (İÜ) between October 23 and 26, a disciplinary investigation was launched against two members of Emek Gençliği (Labor Youth) on the grounds of a banner they hung. Emek Gençliği members had unfurled a banner reading “The palace administration, an accomplice to genocide, will be held accountable” during the event. The investigation launched by the university administration was seen as an intervention against freedom of expression. Emek Youth responded to the decision with a statement saying, “You cannot hide the truth with investigations.” The statement emphasized that the university administration, which hosted the Gaza Tribunal event judging the attacks on Gaza, remained silent against the political power that allegedly continues trade with Israel. Emek Gençliği reiterated that the voice rising from Beyazıt cannot be silenced, stating, “The Palace regime, an accomplice to genocide, will be held accountable.”
