An investigation was launched against Mezopotamya Agency reporter Yeşim Tükel, who participated in the solidarity distribution organized in Kadıköy on January 31, 2025 for the 30th anniversary of Atılım Newspaper. Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the grounds of “insulting the President” (TCK 299) due to the expression “fascist chief Erdoğan” in the newspaper. “I don’t think distributing newspapers is a crime,” Tükel said in her statement at the police station. His lawyer Doğukan Taşdan emphasized that such statements should be considered within the scope of criticism and that the case law of the ECtHR and the Constitutional Court supports this.
