In its May 2025 report, Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) emphasized that the pressures against women journalists are not isolated but systematic. The report stated that 2 journalists were attacked, 2 were threatened, 5 were called to testify, 1 was detained and 1 was arrested. It was also noted that 6 new lawsuits were filed, 2 journalists were sentenced to imprisonment and fined, 29 journalists were on trial in 12 cases and 9 women journalists are still in prison.
