Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for allegedly insulting President Erdoğan in his speech about Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu. In his speech, Özel had said to Erdoğan: “You were kicked out of Aydın on March 31… Is this chivalry! Shame on you!” Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated that these words were a clear attack on the will of 86 million citizens. Prior to the investigation, AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik also targeted Özel and condemned his remarks.
