Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir was arrested on charges of “brokering bribery” after being detained within the scope of two separate investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Epözdemir had previously been referred to the criminal court of peace on duty on charges of “aiding FETÖ/PDY” and “political and military espionage”. In the referral letter, the prosecutor’s office stated that on June 21, 2024, Epözdemir was present at a dinner with people with foreign intelligence connections and that these people were carrying out activities against Turkey. Witness statements and WhatsApp records in the bribery investigation, which has a confidentiality order, were cited among the evidence confirming the 150 thousand dollar bribery allegation in 2021.
