In Aydıncık district of Yozgat, the Ministry of Trade launched an investigation against CHP Aydıncık District Chairman Sadık Erdoğan, who distributed potatoes that could not find buyers below their cost free of charge in the village square.
Erdoğan, who distributed 150 sacks of potatoes to the public in Kazankaya Village, said they wanted to raise the problems of producers. However, Deputy Trade Minister Mahmut Gürcan announced that a fine of between 1.4 million and 17.2 million liras could be imposed for “disrupting the market balance” and “creating a shortage in the market” and that criminal complaints would be filed for “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” and “insulting the President”.
Erdoğan stated that citizens voluntarily bought the potatoes and that his aim was to make the problems of farmers visible. “I wish they would focus on solving the problems of farmers instead of punishing me,” he said.
