Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against BirGün reporter Sarya Toprak for “publicly disseminating misleading information” (TCK 217/A) following a complaint by Bakırköy Penal Institution. The investigation covers news about Esila Ayık, a student with heart and kidney disease. In his statement to the prosecutor’s office, Toprak stated that they only reported information based on medical reports and did not use unconfirmed information.
