On the 100th day of Ekrem İmamoğlu’s arrest, 13 young people who were arrested after the rally organized in Saraçhane were released. However, seven young people were not released because they were being held in another case on charges of “insulting the President”.
13 of the 42 people detained after the rally in Saraçhane on July 1 were arrested. Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had prepared an indictment against 35 people for “opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”. As part of a separate investigation, a lawsuit was also filed against seven young people for “insulting the President”.
Istanbul 64th Criminal Court of First Instance ruled for the release of 13 youth in the first trial. However, the seven youths will remain in prison until the “insulting the President” trial on September 12.
