An operation was organized against Avcılar and Beşiktaş municipalities within the scope of the “corruption” investigation conducted by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. A total of 7 people, 5 from Beşiktaş Municipality and 2 from Avcılar Municipality, were detained. Among those detained were Hüseyin İnan, Culture and Art Chief of Avcılar Municipality and Murat İpşir, Transportation Services Manager.
Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat was arrested on January 17 and Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara was arrested on June 4 and suspended from his duties.
On the other hand, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel summoned 81 provincial chairs to Istanbul following the appointment of a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency. Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, announced that they took office and responded to criticism from within the party with the words “There is a funeral, should we not remove that funeral, should it smell?”
