Journalist Hüsnü Mahalli was sentenced to five months of imprisonment within Article 301 of the Turkish Criminal Code (TCK). In a statement he made on the social media, Mahalli said, “I’ve received 2 years, 5 months and 5 days of imprisonment due to insulting the President and 1 year, 8 months and 25 days of imprisonment due to insulting public officers as a board. Today, I’ve received five months of imprisonment due to denigrating the Republic of Turkey. The crime is the same: Criticising the policies for Syria. Is there anyone who doesn’t criticise that?”
