Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu’s 2 years, 7 months and 15 days in prison and political ban sentence in the “idiot” case was approved by the Court of Appeals. The decision of the Istanbul Anatolian 7th Criminal Court of First Instance was also approved by the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals. Imamoğlu’s lawyers appealed to the Court of Cassation. CHP Group Deputy Chairmen Murat Emir and Ali Mahir Başarır and Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu reacted to the decision, calling it “unlawful and politically engineered”.
