Ekrem İmamoğlu, the detained Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, had his bodyguard Bektaş Kamburoğlu taken into custody as part of a corruption investigation focused on the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. It was stated that Kamburoğlu had been providing security for İmamoğlu’s wife, Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, and his family following İmamoğlu’s imprisonment. It was reported that Ekrem İmamoğlu has been detained since March 23, 2025, and faces a prison sentence ranging from 849 years to 2,430 years and 6 months on charges of “establishing and leading a criminal organization.”
