Human Rights Association (IHD) reported the pressure on rights advocates and lawyers.
The aim of the report, which was shared with a press meeting organized at IHD Headquarters, was expressed to be “to reveal the effect of judicial pressure, which increased in the environment of State of Emergency, on rights advocate lawyers and to draw attentions to the issues in this area.” IHD Co-Chair Öztürk Türkdoğan indicated that there are many investigations and lawsuits against social opposition, especially against human rights advocates, as well as the right to freedom of expression, thought and organization; further stating that this politics of pressure applied through the judiciary increased even more after the declaration of the State of Emergency.
Announcing 226 lawsuits and investigations filed against IHD executives and members within their social media posts, press statements, legal activities and association activities, Türkdoğan stated that there is almost nobody left who wasn’t exposed to lawsuits or investigations among the lawyers who took part in social cases, with 79 investigations and close to 300 lawyers charged in lawsuits.
