Human Rights Association (IHD) announced the 2018 Turkey Human Rights Violations Report. According to the report, the rights to life of 673 people, including 32 children, were violated within one year. A total of 2719 people were exposed to torture – 356 under custody, 246 outside custody and 2598 during demonstrations intervened by security forces. 840 interventions were made in total against peaceful demonstrations.
The report’s section on “freedom of thought, expression and faith” pointed out the “Peace Academics” and the “Özgür Gündem Substitute Editors-In-Chief.” It further underlined that IHD Co-Chair Eren Keskin is under the threat to be imprisoned at any time, facing tens of years of imprisonment as well as hundreds of TL judicial fine due to her journalist activities. The report further called for human rights advocates Osman Kavala, Hasan Ceylan, Özgür Ateş and lawyer Selçuk Kozağaçlı and other arrested lawyers to be released immediately.
