Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a statement on the situation of the academia in Turkey under the conditions of State of Emergency. It was stated that the government dismissed thousands of academics and put hundreds on trial, works of academics and protests of students are being intervened and that all those lead to an environment of self-censorship and a nonexistent academic freedom. HRW pointed out that as the academics are being exposed to criminal investigations and proceedings with “sloppy terror charges,” university administrations are intervening academic research on topics of hot debate.
