The Istanbul 8th Criminal Court of Peace imposed an access ban on news stories and social media posts about Sabah columnist Hilal Kaplan, citing “privacy of private life” as the reason. Kaplan had applied to the court to have news stories about her divorce proceedings from Süheyb Öğüt removed, but the Istanbul 7th Criminal Court of Peace rejected this request. The 8th Criminal Court of Peace, evaluating Kaplan’s appeal made through her lawyer İsmail Mirsat Albayrak, blocked access to 1,605 pieces of internet content specified in the decision. On January 10, 2024, the Constitutional Court ruled that the article enabling access blocking decisions was unconstitutional, but the decision was postponed until after the elections.
