The Ali İsmail Korkmaz Foundation (ALİKEV) did not receive a response from the Hatay Governor’s Office to its application for a fundraising campaign to participate in the Istanbul Marathon. As a result, the foundation was unable to participate in the Türkiye İş Bankası 47th Istanbul Marathon. ALİKEV, whose building in Hatay was destroyed in the earthquake, aimed to raise 3 million 298 thousand lira in donations this year to provide scholarships to 174 students. However, since the governor’s office did not grant permission, it is trying to continue its goal with individual donations. Deniz Umut Eker, the foundation’s General Coordinator, stated that restricting fundraising permits weakens the resilience of civil society, saying, “This is not just a financial obstacle; it means a narrowing of the right to solidarity.”
