Artvin Governorate did not allow the Cerattepe Meeting, that was planned to be organized in Kafkasör Meadow, due to the busy schedule during the religious holiday. Green Artvin Association reprimanded this banning attitude of the Government and called all Artvin residents to hold a picnic in Kafkasör Meadow.
Cerattepe is on the agenda due to the gold mine to be constructed at the site by Cengiz Holding; Artvin residents were exposed to restrictions by governmental institutions with lawsuits filed against protests and bans during their fight against the environmental destruction. Demonstrations and meetings in the province were also banned by the Government for months during the State of Emergency. The latest ban of the Governorate stated, “the event is coinciding with the official religious holiday, there are lots of tourists in the region, there is a busy schedule during religious holidays, therefore residents and citizens should not be victimized.”
