In the case of Semra Güzel, who served as a member of parliament between 2019 and 2022, the Ankara 22nd Heavy Penal Court sentenced her to a total of 8 years and 9 months in prison for “membership in an armed terrorist organization” (6 years and 3 months) and “forgery of official documents” (2 years and 6 months); it also ordered her release under judicial supervision. The DEM Party’s Law and Human Rights Commission criticized the decision, describing it as “politically motivated.”
