Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Co-Chair Deniz Aktaş, who has been under arrest since January, appeared before the judge at Istanbul 14th Assize Court. Aktaş reacted against the prosecution of his political activities and stated that fighting for justice for Suruç is considered a crime.
The court ruled for the continuation of Aktaş’s detention and judicial control of the other defendants and adjourned the hearing to September 10. The hearing was watched by many representatives of socialist parties, democratic mass organizations and MPs.
