President Erdoğan targeted People’s Democratic Party (HDP) through MP Saliha Aydeniz, who now faces an investigation. “We will ask for account, they will pay the price of it,” Erdoğan said. Speaking at the rally organized in Bursa within the local election campaigns, Erdoğan described the HDP MP as “a member of a terrorist organization” and stated that HDP “receives support from Qandil.”
MPs wanting to march to Diyarbakır from different provinces in order to draw attentions to the critical situation of HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, who is on a hunger strike with the demand of removing the solitary confinement of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, were encircled by the police and were prevented from marching. During the blockade, the MPs and the police confronted and HDP MP Saliha Aydeniz allegedly bit the arm of one police officer. Following the allegation, Aydeniz was targeted by the political power and an investigation was opened against her. Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu targeted Aydeniz as well, saying, “Do you know who that woman is? She is the woman who carried terrorists with an ambulance.”
“Threats and targetings will not make us step back,” Aydeniz said, “In order for this country to be democratic, we have to understand each other, negotiate with each other and accept each other’s colours. Despite everything that has been done until now, we are still on the side of democracy, justice, peace and equality. We will continue to fight for it.”
