President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan filed a lawsuit against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for 1 million TL in non-pecuniary damages and filed a criminal complaint for “insulting the President”. Erdoğan’s lawyer Hüseyin Aydın stated that Özel used expressions targeting the President in his statements at the Bayrampaşa rally and at the exit of Marmara Prison on August 13. The lawsuit was filed at the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance, while an application was also filed to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for defamation.
