Council of Europe youth delegate and LGBTI+ activist Enes Hocaoğulları was arrested on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” for his speech at the Council of Europe for Ekrem İmamoğlu and imprisoned mayors. After being detained at Ankara Esenboğa Airport, Hocaoğulları was referred to the prosecutor’s office with a request for arrest and the judge ordered his arrest. LGBTI+ associations stated that this arrest is an intimidation against freedom of expression and the struggle for rights and demanded his immediate release.
