Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim Sen) reacted strongly against the statements of the Directorate of Religious Affairs in the Friday sermon dated August 15, 2025 targeting women’s right to inheritance. Eğitim Sen emphasized that the words “depriving girls of inheritance” and “not accepting the right that Allah has decreed is a servant’s right” in the sermon are a clear attack on the fundamental rights of women and girls.
In the statement, the union said that the Diyanet is attempting to impose Sharia law rules on society by ignoring secularism, equality and the Constitution. Women’s acquired rights, secularism and democratic values will be defended. Eğitim Sen announced that they will continue to defend a public, secular, mother-tongue and gender-equal education approach.
